What You Should Know About Vaccinations Costs

Core vaccines (DHPP for dogs, FVRCP for cats, rabies for both) run $20-$35 per shot at a full-service vet. Low-cost clinics and PetSmart/Petco vaccine events charge $15-$25 per shot. The shots are identical. The difference is overhead.

Non-core vaccines add up fast. Bordetella ($25-$45), Leptospirosis ($25-$40), Canine Influenza ($35-$50), Lyme ($30-$45). Your vet may recommend all of them. Ask which are necessary for your dog's lifestyle. A dog that never goes to daycare or dog parks may not need bordetella.

Puppy and kitten series require 3-4 visits over 12-16 weeks. Total first-year vaccine cost: $120-$200 for puppies, $100-$160 for kittens. After year one, annual boosters are cheaper because fewer shots are needed.
