Pet Wound Repair Cost: $200–$1,000 (2026)
A basic wound repair at the vet costs $200–$500. Deep lacerations, bite wounds, or injuries requiring drain placement push costs to $500–$2,500. The bill depends on wound size, location, contamination level, and whether sedation or full anesthesia is needed. Bite wounds are the most expensive because they almost always need drain placement and antibiotics.

What Affects the Cost
- ▸ Basic wound care (clean, staple/suture, send home): $200–$500. Includes exam, local anesthetic, wound cleaning, and closure. Small lacerations on the body may need only staples.
- ▸ Bite wounds: $500–$2,500. Bite wounds look small but extend deep. They require exploration under sedation, flushing, drain placement ($100–$300), and 7–14 days of antibiotics.
- ▸ Sedation vs. anesthesia changes the cost. Sedation for wound repair: $50–$150. Full general anesthesia: $200–$500. Facial or complicated wounds usually require full anesthesia.
- ▸ E-collar is mandatory ($10–$25). Pets will lick and chew at sutures, causing infection and dehiscence. Don't skip it.
- ▸ Delayed treatment doubles the cost. Wounds seen within 6 hours can usually be closed primarily. After 6–12 hours, contamination makes primary closure risky, requiring more aggressive cleaning and sometimes delayed closure.
